Hi In this post I will be discussing on how to prepare for big vlsi or eda industry like Qualcomm, Synopsys, NXP, Mentor Graphics and Cadence etc for vlsi profile for fresher’s.

  • Technical rounds
  • HR round
How to prepare for written test or online test?
  • Test contains aptitude section, technical section and programming section.
How to prepare for aptitude section?
  • Aptitude questions can be practiced from: India bix website and solve aptitude MCQ questions in geeksforgeeks. They generally ask questions on logical reasoning, data interpretation, PnC, probability, puzzle etc.
How to prepare for technical section?
  • Technical section was based on core subjects like Analog and Digital Electronics and Electronics device and circuits and VLSI design and CMOS Design and Microprocessor and Computer architecture and Hardware Description Languages like Verilog/VHDL etc. You should be good with C/Verilog/VHDL programming. Sometimes they also asked question from static timing analysis based on setup and hold time.
Topic asked in Digital Electronics: 
  • This subject is very important part of any Digital VLSI Job Interview. Wide range of questions asked related to digital logic. Number Systems, Boolean algebra, Logic gates, Combinational circuits and Sequential circuits and State Machines and Memories (RAM, ROM, SRAM, DRAM and Cache memory etc.) and ADC and DAC and logic families like ECL,TTL etc.

  • Digital Design book by Morris Mano.
  • Go through video lecture by Prof. S. Srinivasan on Nptel website.
  • Go through video lecture by neso academy on YouTube.
  • Solve previous year’s gate questions related to Flip Flop and MUX and Counters and FSM.
Topic asked in Computer Architecture: 
  • In this section, questions asked from processor architecture, memories, caches, and instruction sets.

  • Computer Organization and Design by David Patterson.
Topic asked in Analog Electronics: 
  • In this section, questions asked from op –amps and diodes and active and passive filters and basic of BJT and Mosfet and RC network and IC555 timer and Schmitt trigger and Oscillators and Voltage regulator and zener diode and PLL and question based on network theorems and question based on the configuration of Common Source/emitter, Common gate/base, common drain/collector.

  • You can learn Physical design flow and STA and Clock tree synthesis courses from udemy by kunal ghosh.
  • Basic Knowledge of ASIC Design flow.
  • How to calculate fifo depth.
  • Basic knowledge of System Verilog and UVM for design verification profile.
